United States Still Tops List for World's Best Higher Education

A new report show that when it comes to finding the world's best colleges and universities, the U.S. ranks the highest in the world, and as the market remains competitive, potential candidates may find that having a postsecondary degree on their resume from some of the best schools may be the edge they need to land the perfect job.

The U.S. took 7 of the top 10 slots on the Times Higher Education's World University Ranking list with Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts coming in at number 1, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of California Berkley, Stanford, and Princeton rounded out the list. Colleges in Japan and the United Kingdom were the only other countries represented in the upper echelon.

The rankings, based on school reputation, looked at more than 13,300 academics in 131 countries.

Times Higher Education editor Phil Baty said that reputation can be a critical factor when looking for a job, as more applicants find themselves fighting for openings.

"In an ever more competitive global market for students, academics and university administrators, a university's reputation for academic excellence is crucial," Baty noted.

The publication ranked 45 higher educational institutes in the U.S. among the best in the world.
